About
Surf Fire Island is dedicated to documenting the unique beauty of this amazing barrier island
Fire Island means many things too many people and has for centuries. A skinny, long strip of sand that has so much intrigue, beauty and history. I was lucky enough to be able to get to know this Island at a very young age thanks to my grandfather, who fished the waters surrounding Fire Island for much of his life . His passion for the water and fishing was evident in my siblings and I as we grew up exploring the island in the summers of our youth. Surrounded by all the natural beauty that Fire Island offers we developed a relationship with nature that was based on respect and understanding. Besides fishing we also came to love the sport of surfing. Surfing waves with friends in the summer became one of the most memorable and enjoyable experiences of my childhood. It helped shape my character and taught me lessons about life that have stayed with me to this day. As we got older surfing went from a summertime hobby to a year round pursuit and passion.
Today this website is a testiment to all those years spent with sand in my toes of Fire Island. I hope you enjoy experiencing this 32 mile barrier beach with me!

Fire Island Surf Lessons
Learning to surf on Fire Island is quite a challenge for the beginner because of a number of factors. The most important one being that the waves in the summer are generally very small and usually the winds are onshore, which makes the conditions choppy and difficult to learn in. That being said you can learn how to surf on Fire Island if the conditions allow. Please contact me (glenn@surffireisland.com) if you are interested in surf lessons on Fire Island. Prices will include board rental and a rash guard. All lessons are subject to cancellation based on conditions and I will do my best to let you know ahead of time if the date of the lesson isn’t good. I am life-long surfer here in New York and safety is my number 1 priority. I will not do a lesson if the conditions are unsafe and strive to make the surf lesson a fun and relaxing experience! Namaste, Glenn
