After years of second class status in the eyes of the American Surf Industry and surfers alike, the Quicksilver Pro New York will be held in Long Beach N.Y. from September 4-15, 2011…right in the middle of Hurricane Season and of course when the water is at it’s warmest. This is a huge gamble on the part of the ASP and they are banking on it being one of the most prosperous (financially) ever. This time of year can be epic or flat. One epic swell in this window if you remember was September 11th…
Over the years though, these first few weeks of September usually produce some of the best surf we get all season. Let’s hope that this holds true and we can see Slater and the rest of the world’s best getting shacked in the heaving pits of Long Beach… Although something tells me that if there are empty lines on Fire Island like this one below, (from Hurricane Earl last year) I will be on it and watch the highlights on the web! Share your feelings on the Quicksilver Pro New York by commenting and answering the poll question at the bottom of the page. Click here for the press release

Hurricane Earl
Honestly, I think it would be great if it were flat.
Mark me down as one of those douchebags who didn’t grow up here, has only lived here for ten years and would still like to keep it a “secret.”
hey, douche longbeach is no secret.
